In 1993, Greg Mortenson decided to climb K2 but never made it up the mountain. Instead, after rescuing a fellow climber, he stumbled weak and exhausted into a remote village in northern Pakistan. The people of the village saved Greg Mortenson's life and, to repay them, he vowed to build them a school. But he didn’t stop there. To date, Greg has helped build over sixty schools in remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan and helped educate over 25,000 children — most of them girls. Armed with the belief that educating women is the key to improving living conditions in the world's most impoverished regions, Greg Mortenson has transformed the lives of thousands because of the kindness of a few.
